 | Job Shadowing In the event that a participant is unsure of a particular educational or career path, CIAO's Business Service Representative (BSR) may be able to utilize local employer contacts to set the participant up with a short-term 'Job Shadowing' opportunity where he or she can get an idea of what is involved in the day-to-day work of the profession in question. This can be an excellent way forsomeone to either affirm or reconsider a potential career goal. | Leadership & Advocacy The CIAO Program offers interested participants numerous opportunities to participate in events which directly influence the lives of young people in the foster care system. These events may range from health or resource fairs, support groups or community forums to state and national conferences or meetings which can directly affect foster care policy. Participation in these events not only builds public speaking skills and enhances qualifications on a resume, but can also lead to excellent networking opportunities. |

| Mentoring CIAO staff act as mentors to participants, offering guidance towards making the right choices in life and emphasizing the importance of surrounding yourself with positive influences. In some cases, CIAO staff will have the opportunity to refer interested participants to more formal mentoring programs and services outside of the CIAO Program. |
